American Idol Finals, Week 1

Finally...just one episode!

My rankings are based on an average score of singing and performance, each of which have a maximum of 10 points. For example, if a contestant had a 5 in singing but an 8 in performance, their score would be 6.5.

My ratings this week:

1. Katharine (8.5)

1. Chris (8.5)

3. Taylor (8)

3. Paris (8)

5. Elliott (7.5)

5. Mandisa (7.5)

7. Bucky (7)

7. Lisa (7)

9. Ace (6.5)

9. Melissa (6.5)

11. Kellie (5.5)

12. Kevin (4.5)

It's my hope to see Kellie, Kevin, and Lisa in the bottom three with either Kevin or Kellie going home. I'd prefer to see Kevin go. It's definitely time. I hope Kellie follows soon after. She's just not good enough for this competition.

Edited: I highlighted the contestant who did not receive enough votes to stay in the competition.

Rant!

I'd love to post this in a debate thread on the NFP board on Delphi, but I'll just post it here and get it out of my system.

How is it a good thing to have people break the law in your country? If they'll break the law in one area (coming into the country illegally), who's to say they won't break it in other ways? They *are* criminals if they come in illegally. I'm not anti-immigration by any means, but there are, you know, legal ways to do it.

The thing I believe many are failing to take seriously is that terrorists (like al Qaeda) will take advantage of weak borders to infiltrate our country in order to do as much or as more damage than 9/11.

I imagine this is something that I'll just have to disagree with folks on this board about, if what the USA Today article says is true: "The Catholic Church has always opposed immigration controls."

American Idol Girls Week 3

No post from last week; I was on the road, so I didn't get to do much with AI. I can't say I was surprised by anyone who left, but I was sad to see sweet David Radford go.

As for this week....

1.  Katharine -- 9

1.  Mandisa -- 9

1.  Kellie -- 9 (I'm shocked, too)

4.  Paris -- 8

5.  Melissa -- 7

6.  Lisa -- 6

6.  Ayla -- 6

8.  Kinnik -- 5

Paris is starting to annoy me. I still think she has a great voice, but something about her is grating me. I hope she steps it up starting in the finals. There's no way she's going home this week, I don't think, but she needs to give it more effort.

Lisa was altogether meh. The song was boring, and she really didn't even sing it that well.

Melissa gave a good performance, I thought. She was as "on" as I suspect she can get, though that's not really enough. She was good, but she doesn't have any real spark. Sad, really.

Kinnik was just really bad. Really, really bad. And all I could see were her lips. Yikes.

Katharine was great as usual. I enjoyed her, and I just love her personality. I think I voted about 40 times for her last night. ;o)

Ayla may have beaten everyone for most boring performance. It was pretty pathetic. And the fact there were, what, six notes?, didn't help. Her "dancing" was ugly, and it was just dull, dull, dull.

Mandisa was great. I was totally entertained. However, it sounded a lot like Whitney's performance to me. That could be good (I mean, Whitney was great back then), or it could be bad (karaoke, anyone?).

Kellie gave her best performance yet, I thought. She still doesn't have a great voice (I totally don't like her upper register...it's so whiny!), but that was very good.

I suppose we should expect Melissa and Kinnik to go, since that's what Simon has decreed, but Ayla wouldn't be a bad candidate to go. Neither would Lisa. Ugh.
